Why am I in this field? My life experiences have led me into this line of work. I was born in Albania in and moved to Australia when I was 12 years old. As an immigrant, I felt I was on the outskirts of society, and that terrible isolation has driven me to want to help others on the fringes. I first started in disability with the Humane Clinic, where I learned the 'Just Listening' approach to communication, which is the bedrock of how I approach disability work. I have worked with a wide range of clients, but my passion is for mental and psychosocial disabilities. I want to help people live life on their own terms, listen to their stories so they feel heard, and be with them through difficult life transitions. I believe living life in your own terms begins with a vision - I want to assist people with that vision, and help them establish the habits required for that vision to become reality. Alternatively, I can offer companionship and a space for people to be vulnerable.

I became a mentor because I want to see people grow. I'm driven by people achieving positive results and my aim is to assist where I can to facilitate those results. I love having the opportunity to work alongside people to help them better understand what they want to do and how they want to achieve it, even helping to break down goals into more achievable steps. Whether it be making progress towards their goal or even just stepping outside their comfort zone, it's great to witness and to be apart of that personal growth. As for my own interests and hobbies, I'm very big on sports. I played soccer for many years at club and interstate level and for my school I played rugby, volleyball, badminton and cricket. After 17 years as a safety rep, I was drawn to disability work by my older brother, who is blind with an intellectual disability. I worked for 17 years at the Strathmont Centre (now defunct), a home for disabled and elderly residents, gaining valuable experience, building relationships with the tenants, and learning how to best support those who need it. Outside of my professional career, I have spent 25 years coaching soccer at grassroots and professional levels, including stints at NPL teams Adelaide Blue Eagles, Metro Stars, Para Hills, and Modbury. I am very easy-going. I’m able to get along with anyone and everyone with my calm and patient demeanour. I believe it’s necessary to make my clients feel at ease in any situation to reduce anxiety or discomfort. I became a mentor because I believe in the power of community as a foundation for personal growth. There’s something incredibly meaningful about being part of someone’s journey—helping them explore who they are, build emotional awareness, and develop the skills to create their own supportive networks. I’m especially passionate about emotional regulation and understanding, and I’ve found that some of the most powerful breakthroughs don’t happen in an office—they happen out in the world, often in nature, where people feel free to be themselves. My curiosity about people and how we’ve evolved as a society led me to complete a Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Adelaide, followed by a Diploma of Counselling through TAFE SA. These studies have deepened my appreciation for the human experience and how we connect with one another. When I’m not mentoring, you’ll usually find me out walking—especially hiking through scenic trails—or in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes.

I’m an occupational therapist from Cali, Colombia – the salsa capital of the world! I lived in Sydney for a year and a half before moving to Adelaide for love, and now I’m happily engaged to my fiancé. I chose this profession because I’m passionate about helping people perform their daily activities more independently. I’ve worked across mental health, physical rehabilitation, and neurorehabilitation, and what I enjoy most is connecting with people and supporting them to achieve their goals. Outside of work, you’ll often find me listening to or dancing salsa, staying active through exercise, and cooking healthy meals. I also love chatting with my sister, who is a doctor in Colombia, about life and our professions. While Spanish is my first language, I enjoy speaking English too – even if I make the occasional pronunciation mistake! For me, communication and connection are everything. Moving to Australia and this industry taught me: if you want something in life, you have to fight for it – and mistakes are part of the process.
